The noble name of Kyrian carries on through the ages of Fairn's records, going back to the times when the country was united under its first king, and possibly farther. Nadia was the youngest child and the only girl born to the direct lineage of that noble line.

Nadia knew tairly early that she would be married to another noble man. She spent her days indoors, and by the time she was ten, her father had arranged her marriage to a boy named Felix from a far-off noble family.

Nadia, five years younger than her next-oldest brother, was just as often ignored or teased as she was pampered and overprotected. The teasing died off from her eldest brothers as she grew, though it only worsened from Lance, and Nadia began to spend more time inside, learning the habits of a lady. Eli and William married, and she attended their marriages. Then it was Hector, and she and Lance were the only ones left at home.

Nadia had a habit of making friends with her servants, a tendency which frustrated her father . It was just before her sixteenth birthday when she made friends with Reuben. He told her wonderful stories of his family at home, of making snowmen and snow angels, pelting his neighbor with snowballs. Nadia loved hearning about the family that he'd left behind so that he could serve her. Whatever she asked, he told her, and she grew to consider him one of her best friends.

Then, a month before her seventeenth birthday, Reuben raped her.

Nadia told no one, and at least once a week, Reuben would come and see her again. No one asked questions, knowing that he was a friend of Nadia's, and Nadia burned or buried or hid the sheets whenever they had blood on them. Reuben told her no one would listen to her, that she was just a girl, but he also told her that he loved her and that she was beautiful, and so she never told. And she started to rely on him, to expect the visits, and even to think that maybe she loved him too.

His visits lessened as she got older and her suitor visited the Kyrian manor more often to court her. But when he was gone, always the night after he left, Reuben would return and demand what he had done, if he had touched her, taken her, in the way that he had, and the answer was always no.

Then Reuben would have her again.

The testers arrived in the midst of one of Felix's visits, and Nadia was informed that she had magic and needed to report to Everthorne Academy within two weeks. Felix was overjoyed. Reuben was enraged.

Nadia is nothing if not agreeable. She's eager to please people, and very quick to reform her own opinions if they don't align with those of someone she cares for or considers a friend. This has caused conflicts with her brothers in the past, when she's been so eager to please both that her opinion has wavered back and forth several times in a few minutes. She's never grown out of this tendency, though she tends to conceal it better now that she's old enough to understand just what it is that she's been doing.

Nadia depends deeply on other people, tending to attach to them and absorb their opinions, their likes and dislikes, and sometimes even their habits or mannerisms. Even if she absorbs nothing from them, however, she also keeps a small diary of names of people she's met and a way to remember them. Reuben's name has nothing beside it.

Nadia loves stories, especially true ones from other people's lives. While she likes hearing them, however, she thinks she's miserable at telling her own, and besides, they're embarrassing. She's also sure she's not interesting at all. Who would want to hear about all the times she got dragged into the mud by her brothers?

Nadia is very intelligent and creative, and loves to read. When she's not paying attention, she tends to draw in the margins of any book she happens to be holding at the time, whether it's hers or not.

Nadia is rather beautiful when she tries, though even then she tends to blend into the background. She has long auburn hair that curls slightly at the ends, and large hazel eyes. She tends to tie back her hair halfway with ribbons, keeping some of the longer strands out of her eyes. She has long eyelashes, a thin frame, and is about average height for a girl of her age and standing. She speaks timidly, often with her hands clasped either before her or behind her back. She has little confidence in speaking, and will often not initiate a spoken conversation unless it is with someone she trusts deeply.
